A few weeks ago when I was looking to do a maternity session in the snow I got a very sweet email from another local photographer, Mollie, which I've spoken with online, but had never met in person. After chatting a little we decided to get together for a quick session as she was looking for a unique way to announce her 2nd pregnancy to her family and I was dying to get out and play in the snow. We had fun taking the photos...

Late Winter into early Spring is typically a photographers slow time, but I never find that to be... between photographing newborns, wrapping up the previous year and preparing for the year ahead I find myself as busy as ever! My limited openings for January have been booked and I am now booking February & March for baby plans, maternity and newborns only. You won't find me around here much as I regroup and refocus both personally and professionally. If you're interested in booking a session please send me an email or you can always call. There will be some behind the scenes work going on with both my website and the blog so if you stop by for a visit and things look a little off, please excuse the mess. Since I can't post without a photo here are a few more from our trip to Colorado... the first is Pedro and DJ watching some skiers and snow boarders having some back country fun at the Continental Divide. It was very cold, about 10º, so the girls and little man were still in the truck. The second picture is of the view as we headed down, as I look at this I feel badly for poor Kenna, she gets car sick very easily and this must have been torturous for her between the altitude and the winding roads, but check out that view, I hope it made it all worth while!

Here it is 2010, twenty-ten, cause that's the way it should be said! I don't know where the time has gone as I sit and think of where I was only 10 years ago... a decade has gone by, my life has changed in more ways than I could have possibly imagined or dreamt for myself! We've moved a few times, 6 to be exact, but who's counting, 3 different states and 2 of them twice, I'm now in business for myself loving what I do, we've added two boys to our beautiful family and the best part of all... our family is together more than it's apart! It all seems so long ago yet just yesterday... okay enough of that or I'm going to be in tears, weeping at my computer when the hubby gets home.

We had a great Christmas, a white one even! Then we headed to Denver to ring in the new year and have some fun in the beautiful Rocky Mountains! Here are some photos I captured with my iphone... I think I'll call the first one "purple mountain majesties".

I miss Denver more than I ever thought possible, I missed it when we moved to Northern California in 2001, but with the Pacific Ocean and the Sierra Mountains so close it was easy to live in the Bay Area. This time when we moved east to the plains of Kansas, they are beautiful in their own right, not only do I miss our friends and family (from CO & CA both), but the beauty that is the Rocky Mountains, I'm just glad that we are close enough to visit frequently.

I'm an all or nothing kind of girl, so the weather we've had this past couple of days does nothing for me! If it's going to be so cold that the car door freezes shut or that my baby slips and falls on his bottom every time we go outside (poor lil' guy) I'd just rather we had snow to go along with it! I don't mind the cold, but I don't like the in-between, so today since we don't have any snow I want this...

Somewhere between Halloween and Thanksgiving, 12 years ago, I had my baby girl, Madi. I actually know what her birth date is, but with the craziness of life during this time of year more often than not she ends up celebrating her birthday late. I'm busy, but she is just as busy... school, friends, wrapping up the end of her outdoor soccer season, starting indoor soccer and this year she decided to try out for the volleyball team, being the star athlete that she is, of course she made it, so she was finishing up that as well. She was okay with it all and really didn't even want a party, but kept asking for a dog, which her father and I kept avoiding the subject, as we really wanted another too.

My mom came to visit over the Halloween weekend, just a few days before Madi's birthday, and we decided to take a detour on the way home from shopping, ending up at the humane society, before it was open I might add. To make an already long story short, Madi fell in love with a puppy that was out getting some exercise, grandma & mom were easy to convince and she now has a new friend, plus she got an early birthday this year! His name is Baxter, he is a schnauzer/pomeranian mix and cute as can be! He's been with us for a month now and is fitting right in with the family, including our much larger than him husky, he can hold his own, they run & play most of the day... when he's not sitting at me feet while I'm working, preventing me from rolling in my desk chair. And so without further ado I introduce to you Baxter...

and the belated birthday girl...

I can't believe how the time has flown and wow! her hair grows fast! She just cut off 10" in Sept. to donate. Ahhh, my baby girl is growing up... *sigh*.

I know it's been awhile so I'm just going to get right to it...

First of all I want to thank all my clients who were so patient through all of the wet fall weather and my family's bout with "the" flu, we are all finally back to 100% and looking forward to the holidays! With that being said, I am wrapping up all my proofing and as of right now, only have one more gallery to post! I am now taking appointments for 2010 and will only be doing a few maternity and newborn sessions through the end of 2009.

Butter Bean is a children's boutique that just opened between Gentry Ltd. and Specs in the old Kate Lane space, I have some beautiful (if i do say so myself!) canvases displayed there, plus they have some of the cutest kids clothes around and some great eco friendly toys too! Here's a sneak peek, but you really must see them in person!

This wall is 4' tall by 25' wide which makes my otherwise large canvases look rather small! The large canvases are 36x24 and the smaller two are 16x24!

I wanted to share a beautiful album that I offer to all of my clients, they are most popular with my newborn sessions, but for those family sessions this is a great way to get all your photos, but where you're able to see them daily and share them with friends and family, not stuck on a CD somewhere.

They are called Dream Albums and for a reason as you'll see, although I don't know if these photos do it justice...

~ images are printed on professional photo paper and flush mounted

I can't believe it's the middle of September already, please somebody stop the clocks because time is just flying by way too fast! As the leaves start to fall I am reminded that the craziest time of the year for me is just around the corner, although it must have been an early winter last year as I've had lots of newborns this summer ;) so it's been pretty busy too! I still have a few openings for some regular sessions locally and I will be doing sessions in the San Francisco Bay Area next month, which I only have one more opening for (email me for more details), so if you are looking for a full session give me a call soon. Just wanted to check in with everyone and let you know that I am indeed still here. I took the last week off and got my children settled into the school routine. Where the summer went I'm not sure, but I am ready for Fall!! It is my most favorite season! I am busy with all the kids activities and it's the busiest time for my photography business, I thrive on the craziness that Fall brings my way. I'm off to get some work done and to see Mr. DJ off on his first day of pre-k, hoping no tears will be shed on his part or mine! Today my first born, my baby girl, turns 16. I'm not sure where the time went or how it is that it seems so long ago yet like it was just yesterday that she came into our lives. She was a very good baby... good thing since I was a new mom, a new wife and barely 18 myself, we made it through and she has grown to become a smart, beautiful, thoughtful, caring and loving human being. Her father and I are immensely proud of her and all that she has accomplished to date and very much look forward to seeing all that she accomplishes in her future. I could go on and on telling you how proud we are of her and what she has meant to us, but I will spare you the details and me the tears, and share a few photos...

I've had some spirited baby girls lately, I like to think it's a new generation of strong, independent women in the making. As the mother of two girls myself it always makes my heart happy. Last week I had the pleasure of visiting with Vivienne and her famliy. I love her name and when I looked up the meaning I wasn't surprised, it means alive or lively and that she was! Little miss Vivi didn't want any part of sleeping during her session, she definitely has her mind made up and already and knows how to get what she wants. Mom and dad both played their part in trying to console their new little girl and we managed to get a few great memories for them. Thanks for the patience "B" family, I look forward to seeing your little girl blossom into a beautiful person.

Wanted to let everyone know that my schedule for holiday photos is going to be filling up fast and soon! I only have a few weekday spots open on my schedule and the weekends always go first. I am considering doing at least one mini session before the holidays. So let me know if you're interested. Plan ahead as I will be wrapping up sessions for the year in early November, with exception given to newborns of course!

edited to add: A mini session is where I pick a spot that I'll be at for a few hours on a given day and schedule sessions in 30 minute increments. These are special packages that include your sitting fee and a digital file or multiple prints for cards.

Feels good to be all caught up on client orders and almost there with editing, then I can finally get to the personal stuff. I did a shoot with my girls back in May and have yet to finish the editing of them, quite the task with hundreds of photos, I always go over board with my own and then never delete any of them because each photo speaks top me in one way or another. Blogging on the other hand is so far behind I don't even know where to begin so I think I'll start fresh and go from there, if you had a session that didn't get blogged watch for it this winter as I'll back track a little during my "slow" time. Summer sessions are almost completely booked, I do have a few openings in August due to a schedule change, so if you're wanting to get some photos in before school starts give me a call. I will soon be booking for Christmas sessions and always have room for newborns. I'll be out of the office today as I'm headed out to scout some locations for a maternity session this weekend, which reminds me... if you are local and have any great locations for photo sessions please share as I'm always looking for new and fun ideas. On our recent trip to Denver I had the pleasure of being there by myself for a few days and enjoyed the peace and quiet immensely. It wasn't exactly quiet as I was staying with my best friend and her family, and with three children running around it's never quiet, but at least it wasn't my kids making all the noise. I did enjoy the time away... the chance to go for a nice long run in the cool morning air, to leisurely shop with no time constraints or whining children and of course the opportunity to reconnect with a dear friend. While there I got the opportunity to do some family photos for them and here are just a few from our session. Thanks for a great time... I miss you guys already!

Wrapping it up at the fire pit... I love their neighborhood, it is so beautiful and everyone is so nice!

I know... I know... I've been rather absent around here lately. I've been working on updating my website, making some business changes and looking at different options for my clients. After losing Sophie over a year ago we knew that we would eventually get another dog we just didn't know when or how he would come to us. We have since fostered a couple of dogs that didn't fit into our family for one reason or another and had come to the conclusion that we would have to get a puppy to get exactly what we wanted. Not wanting to go through the puppy stage and really wanting to provide a home for a dog that needed one I was still hoping that we would find the perfect dog for us and finally we have. This is Momo Inu which translates to "peach dog" in Japanese, he is a white husky, not pure white as his coat has a hint of peach to it, thus his new name, and he is about 3 years old. We recently found him through the Siberian Husky Rescue and finally picked him up this weekend. He is a beautiful dog and very sweet although he is a bit anxious and has lost weight recently because of this, we are working on getting some more weight on him before he gets neutered. He is very smart, already responding to his name and the training that we are beginning. Momo loves to run and took me, yeah he took me, out for a jog this morning so I now have a running mate! All in all everyone is pleased with the new addition and Bailey loves having a friend to play with although she isn't loving all the "male" attention and hopefully this will get better once he is neutered. Welcome to the family Momo we look forward to many long and happy years with you.

I feel bad about my poor neglected blog, it seems when I get busy this is the first thing to get knocked down the list of priorities and it just isn't right. It really doesn't take all that much time to do a quick post, the photo prep is automated in my photoshop so all I have to do is think of something witty to say. Maybe that's the problem, I haven't been very witty as of late and so the blog gets neglected. I had a photo session with each of my boys last week and this is what I got from the oldest who is sick of me taking photos of him...

Spring is finally here and my schedule is filling up fast!! I have a few appointments left for April and am quickly booking up May. Keep in mind that I have a very limited number of appointments available each month and the weekend appointments fill up 4-6 weeks in advance. So if you're hoping to get a spring date please contact me ASAP! I am starting a wait list for fall appointments (Christmas photos) and will be releasing those dates soon. If you're wanting newborn (14 days or less) photos please contact me with your due date, I always place a priority on these appointments and make room for them in my schedule once you deliver. Well we are back from vacation and are trying to get reacquainted with the real world again, not an easy task after spending a week at Disney World. We had a great time and it was better than I had expected. Not that I expected Disney to be anything less than terrific, but going with all four children, two of which are 1.5 and 3.5, lets just say I had expected some major melt downs and we had none. I know you can't believe it, but not a one! We did plan lots of down time and plenty of time for the girls to do their own thing. Kenna probably would have had a better time had a friend come along, we'll consider it next time. Madi enjoyed herself thoroughly and a lot of memories came back from her early visits there. DJ was in overload for the most part, being at the age that everything is so real and to see it in person just makes it all so exciting. Rafi was just along for the ride and a great little trekker was he!

Here's a video of DJ in "Jedi Training" at Disney Studios. We had been to the show before and he was not picked to come up on stage and that was all he talked about afterward, so we decided to try again the morning we were due to leave and to our surprise he got to get up on stage and fight Darth Vadar! It absolutely made his whole trip.

The applause when he activates his light saber is because during the "training" he could never get it to work and the Jedi master kept having to help him out.

Good times... now back to our real lives which now includes more Star Wars than when we left, which I would have thought to be nearly impossible.

My baby turned 18 months old yesterday, it is a bittersweet moment as he is our last baby, he's #4. He doesn't like his picture taken, he always comes and sits in my lap when I get the camera out, he long ago figured that one out. He is our bundle of energy and is always into something or should I say EVERYTHING, I love him to pieces and am so glad we decided to have one more. Here he is at 2 weeks, on his first b-day and now at 1 and a half...

So, I finally got my office all put together the first of the year, I actually have a separate office space that clients can come to and view photos and pick up orders, only to realize I didn't have nearly enough big photos, tons of smaller ones, but I needed some big ones for the walls. What is a girl to do but order a few canvas prints... the first one came today I immediately hung it and I love it!! It is a 16x24x1.5 inch canvas of some super cute sisters...

...yes my office is orange, that's the color it was when we bought the house, orange happens to be my favorite color, it's like it was meant to be.

This is my husband and son in Kona a little over 2 years ago. I'm so glad I found this today, it brings back great memories. I don't really take as many photos as I should of my family or our adventures and lately, since our family camera was stolen, I'm even worse. I get so wrapped up in taking the "perfect" picture that I tend not to be in the moment, I will try to do better... Now on my to do list: 1) buy new "small" camera, and 2) buy a Flip video camera. That should help remedy the situation and make it fun at the same time! In the mean time I'm going to think warm thoughts...

We've been busy around here preparing for the new year. I always hope to have everything set and ready to go January 1 and that just isn't realistic. Fall is typically the busiest time as a portrait photographer and so between business and then the holidays in full swing I end up spending the better part of January getting caught up on business needs and making sure everything is set for a smooth year. This year I will be adding senior photography and will continue to build on my maternity portfolio as well so stay tuned for some specials. On a side note I bought a $3 bottle of water the other day because I liked the bottle, the water was okay, but the bottle was worth it! Now it holds this lovely flower...

Now that we are settled into our new home and everyone is getting into a routine I have begun to get my photography back on track. I will be taking a limited number of appointments each week until November 19. We're on the move, again!

If you know my husband and I very well then you know that we move about every two years, whether it be a new house in the neighborhood or a new state. We've been back in Denver for just over two years now so naturally it's time to move. Although we had every intention of staying here for the foreseeable future, my husband has been given a great opportunity with a terrific company (Learjet) in Wichita, KS...so off to Kansas we go. I have rescheduled all of my appointments and will finish shooting here in Denver the middle of May. I will start taking clients in Kansas once we know our move schedule. It will surly be an exciting adventure for our family and we are all looking forward to it.

Speaking of which I am still making a few changes and it has a mind of it's own when it comes to few things, adding periods where there shouldn't be...anyways, I still only require a $100 deposit to book your appointment with the remainder due on the day of your session. For my current clients wanting digital files from previous sessions (within the last year or so) I'll give you a 20% discount on my digital bundles until April 15. I am now booking through June with a few spots still available in April.

...she is gone. Today I had to make the heart wrenching decision of putting our dog Sophie to sleep. I know she is better off, that she no longer has pain, but it is very difficult to know that she is no longer with us. Those blue eyes will forever behold my heart.
